Overview

The research project VisPME is partially funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). It is a joint effort with partners from industry and research aiming at making efficient use of highly parallel resources, such as clusters of many-core cpu systems containing gpus, for post-processing and visualisation tasks from data flow driven visualisation systems.

The project goals are:

  • to create a flexible framework for parallel and distributed visualization that is applicable throughout the different fields
  • to develop scheduling strategies that are able to re-order the processing of data and dynamically adapt the accuracy of algorithms and resolution of the data
  • to provide algorithms for visualization of data sets from different application areas in distributed manycore environments
  • to assure the applicability of the developed concepts and the usability of the visualization environments with the help of users from different domains

Our role

Our focus in VisPME is the development of parallel post-processing and visualisation techniques as well as their integration with visualisation environments and enabling remote visualisation from virtual environments.

Our tasks include:

  • devising scheduling and distribution strategies
  • parallel computation of diffusion tensors and tractography
  • volume rendering in clusters of multi-gpu systems
  • improving remote rendering methods
